PNS Flashcards
1
Q
What does the PNS do?
A
-Relays nerve impulses from CNS to body and back
2
Q
What are the 2 divisions of the PNS?
A
- Somatic nervous system
- Autonomic nervous system
3
Q
What does the Somatic Nervous System do?
A
- Uses sensory receptors to carry info to spine and brain
- Has motor pathways to control movement
4
Q
What is the Autonomic nervous system?
A
- Responsible for involuntary actions
- e.g. breathing
- 2 divisions: sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system
5
Q
What does the sympathetic nervous system do?
A
- Regulates organs
- Helps us in emergencies and responds if person is under threat
- Uses noradrenaline for stimulating effect
6
Q
What does the parasympathetic nervous system do?
A
- Regulates organs
- Relaxes organs after emergency
- Uses acetylcholine for inhibiting effect
