PNS System Flashcards
4 Basic structural components:
- sensory receptors
- ganglia
- nerves
- motor endings
3 different classifications of receptors
stimulation, location, structural complexity
Stimulation type:
Mechanoreceptors- touch, pressure, vibration
Nociceptors- excess stimuli; pain
Photoreceptors- Respond to light
Thermoreceptors- Changes in temperature
Chemoreceptors- Blood chemistry., smell, taste
Location
Proprioceptors- Skeletal muscles, tendons, joints, ligaments, & CT of bones & muscles; body movements
Interoreceptors- Sensitive to chemical changes, tissue
stretch, & temperature change
Exteroreceptors- Skin, touch, pressure, pain, temp.
Most special sense organs
Encapsulated nerve endings
Meissener's corpuscle Pascinian Corpusle Ruffini Endings Joint kinesthetic Receptors Golgi tendon Muscle spindles
Unencapsulated nerve endings
Thermoreceptors- Cold 10-35 Superficial Hot 32-48 Deeper
Itch receptors- Histamine
Light tough receptors- Tactile [merkel] discs & hair follicle receptors
Nociceptors- Chemicals from damaged tissue
Temperatures out of range of thermoreceptors
Capsaicin
