Assonance
Assonance is the repeated vowel in words placed near each other.
Ex. The long road down south. P
Onomatopoeia
Words that sound like their meaning.
Ex. Boom, buzz, pop, crackle, hiss
Rhyme
Words that have different beginning sounds but have different ending sounds.
Ex. Time, slime, mime
Repetition
The purposeful re-use of words or phrases for an effect.
Ex. I was glad; so very, very glad
Rhythm
Pattern an beat.
Alliteration
Alliteration is the repeated consonant sounds at the beginning of words placed near each other.
Ex. Fast and furious
Ex. Peter and Andrew patted the pony at ascot.
Metaphor
A figure of speech in which a word or phrase is applied to an object or action to which it is not literally applicable.
Personification
Making an animal or object sound or seem like a person
Ex. Slowly, silently, now the moon
She walks the night in her silver shoon.
