E - this is committees mainly composed of MPs and member chosen based on interests to scrutinise and call upon witnesses for evidence
E - in 2011 the select committee on home affairs launched an investigation into the causes of and the governments response to the riots in London and the cities

Scrutinising gov actions ( congressional committees )

A

E- this is committees that tend to focus on a particular area and they have a wide range of powers to call witnesses and see papers so they can scrutinise based on sound evidence
E - former Mo George Galloway was called before a senate committee over allegations of oil trading with Saddan Hussain

A

E - HOL typically conduct scrutiny as a whole house with a high level of expertise for effective scrutiny
E - the hunting act 2004 which led to the banning of fox hunting with packs of hounds

E- the senate can scrutinise any appointments as they are subject to senate approval they can block presidential appointments and scrutinise the presidents action
E - Brett Kavanough who was appointed as a court judge in 2018 approved by the senate

E- when the gov is scrutinised via questions and it allows for the opposition to scrutinise the PM
E - in 2018 snp hoc Ian blackford questioned wether Theresa may would be ‘holding out the red carpet’ for Donald’s trump visit when he has been detaining children in what appeared to be cages

Scrutiny via publicity/media

A

E - the media scrutinises the gov as journalist not politicians, this means the media becomes heavily biased in favour of a specific political party
E- Fox News was fiercely critical of President Obama particularly over his healthcare plan and immigration reforms, Fox News is a pro rebuttal Party
