E - involves PM meeting with foreign leaders at summits to negotiate and come to foreign policy agreements, but policy decisions may not be reached if at these meetings media shines Pm in a negative light
E - David Cameron embarrisngly had to field field difficult questions at a 67 summit in Germany over wether he had asked ministers to resign if they didn’t not support his position on the EU membership
A - less effective can’t control his win party

Legislative power ( UK )

A

E - involves the PM having the power to introduce legislation as the PM is also an MP, but this is limited by by policy disagreements as the PM depends on the support from other MPs and ministers to pass laws
E - Boris Johnson focus on negotiating Britain’s exit from the European Union as the PM he is dictating the direction of negotiating at the UK level.

E - involves P meeting with other world leaders to make foreign police’s treaties and often the P is seen to have greater power at the negotiation table with the expectation of when being critical of other countries
E- in 2019 Donald trump was the first P to meet with North Korea leader Kim Jung Un on establishing a more peaceful relationship.m

A

P - only congress can introduce legislation
E - involves the P not being able to introduce legislation therefore the president must clearly outline their plans in the state of union address
E - At trumps last state of union address Nancy Pelosi ripped up his speech afterwards suggesting his plans were not taken seriously by congress

Power of appointment ( UK)

A

E - involves PM having the ability to appoint cabinet members, senior civil service and BBC chief executive however this is limited by a collation government which forces the PM to include powerful party figures in order to keep them in line
E - it is claimed Blair could not in effect demote Gordon Brown as chancellor as he was popular whithin the party and if removed would have become a significant rival

Power of appointment ( USA )

A

E - involves the P being able to appoint cabinets, Supreme Court justices and the vice president, however this is limited as the potential appointees may not receive the senate approval.
E - Obama appointed Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court in 2009 - the first Hispanic ( and only the third female) to sit on the Supreme Court
