Q

What is addition polymerisation?

A

Lots of unsaturated monomers (alkenes) open up C=C double bonds & join together.

Q

How do you get from displayed formula of polymer to displayed formula of monomer?

A

Draw out repeating bit of polymer.
Remove binds going out.
Put double bond between carbons.

Q

Why are addition polymers hard to get rid of?

A

Addition polymers = inert.
Very strong Carbon-Carbon bonds aren’t easily broken.
So not biodegradable as not broken down by bacteria - fill up landfill sites.
