What is population distribution?
The spread of population over a particular area.
What is population density?
The number of people living in an area is usually shown per square KM.
How is the UK’s population spread?
Unevenly spread. Lots of people in cities and towns fewer in the countryside. Cities are densly populated whereas areas in the north are sparsely populated.
Positive factors settling?
Flatland,Fertile soil, job opportunities, good water supply, good farming-opportunities, favourable weather, good communications.
Negative factors
Mountains, thick forest, steep land, frozen ground, poor weather, poor water supply, little industry.
What is a birth rate?
The number of people born per 1000 each year.
What is a death rate?
The number of people who died per 1000 each year.
What was the world population in 1750?
1 billion people.
What was the world population in 1950?
2.5 billion people.
What was the world population in 2000?
6.1 billion people.
What is the estimated population for 2150?
Over 10 billion people.
Factors affecting birth and death rate?
War, disease, diet, health care, poor harvest, fresh clean water, drought, no food, poison, suicide, smoking, suffocation.
What is migration?
The movement of people from 1 place to another. Migration can be forced or voluntary.
What is international migration?
Movement between countries e.g. South Africa to ni.
What is internal migration?
Movement within a country e.g. Belfast to Enniskillen.
