What is population distribution??
This describes how the worlds population is spread out across the world. E.g butter on toast
What is population density?
This describes the number of people in an area per km2
evenly, clustered, randomly
Why do we use population density?
We use population density as a measure of how many people live in a set area. Population density=number of people
Population divided by area.
Give some examples of push and pull factors
Push- bad health services, bad school education, poor water supply, very few jobs and very hot or cold temperatures.
Pull- good school education, good health services, good water and food supply, lots of jobs, flat or gently sloping land and pleasant climate.
What is migration.
It is the movement of people from one place to another on a temporary or permanent basis.
Who is an emigrant?
Someone who leaves a place.(‘exit’)
Who is a immigrant?
Someone who is arriving in a place.(‘i’n)
What is the name of the place which the migrant begins?
The origin ( source )
What is the name of the place where the migrant travels to?
The destination ( host )
What is a refugee?
Someone who is forced to move because of a result of war, whether civil or with another country.
Persecution due to a political or religious beliefs or environmental causes eg floods, earthquakes or drought. When they enter another country they may be called asylum seekers.
What is a benefit of polish migrants?
They will get better jobs, higher wages, food water, better housing, land and money for their families.
They would send back money to Poland, therefore strengthening economy.
Disadvantages of polish migrants
They take locals jobs, money, food, water, they take up land, take up spaces in schools for locals.
Their homes could be vandalised, they could be attacked, disrespected, threatened and could not fit in.
More disadvantages of polish migrants
More polish speaking children in schools, migrant workers taking jobs, some people resort to violence and force them away.
