What is a population
Everything or everybody that could possibly be involved in an investigation
What is a census
It gathers data from the whole population
What is a sample
A subset of a population intended to represent the population as a whole
What should a representative sample contain
All the characteristics of the population to avoid bias. A sample that is too small may not represent the population and may be bias the results.
What are the sampling units
The people or items that are to be sampled
What is a sampling frame
A list of all the members of the population from which the sample will be taken
What is a pilot survey
A small sample analysed first before any large-scale samples
What is a pre-test
A pilot where questions for a questionnaire are usually tried out
