This type of paper presents one side of an arguable opinion about an issue.
Position Paper
What is the goal of a position paper?
to convince the audience that your opinion is valid and defensible
What is the importance of a position paper?
- It is important you are addressing all sides of the issue and presenting it in an easy to understand manner
- several criteria must be met
- gives delegates an oppurtunity to organize an organized policy statement
- take one side of the argument and persuade the audience to follow your stand
- support your argument with evidence
What is the position paper written based on?
facts that provide a solid foundation on the topic
What are the four (4) Considerations in Preparing A Position Paper?
- issue criteria
- considering your audience and determining your viewpoint
- stating your thesis
- writing with style and clarity
It is a one sentence statement and assertion, something you claim to be true, about your topic
Thesis
It refers to the choice of words for the expression of ideas; the construction, disposition and application of words in your essay, with regard to clearness, accuracy and variety, etc.; mode of expression and language.
diction
It is developing and framing an idea or expression.
Paragraph
It tells the reader what to do with the information you present them. Its function is to give a signal for readers how to think about, organize and react to old and new ideas as they read through what you have written.
