What is the N1 section?
Low pressure turbine: 4 stage with a single stage fan
What is the N2 section?
14stage axial flow compressor
What is the N2 connected to?
2 stage high pressure turbine
What runs off of the accessory gear box?
Engine lubricator pump
Alternator (N1 speed control)
Engine driven hydraulic pump
Fuel control unit
Engine driven fuel pump
ATS (air starter turbine)
Will the engine quit after full electrical failure?
No, its a self contained unit
Will the engine be able to power the accessory gear box and its components at idle power?
What are the 2 speed controls in the engine and when are they used?
N2 speed control: lower power settings, fuel is metered to match the N2 on both engines
N1 speed control: takeoff, climb, cruise power setting: fuel is metered to control N1 fan, N1 provides better N1 matching of power settings
When does speed control switch over?
When END SPEED control switches are on and N1 is greater than 79%
What stage does the ATS (air turbine starter) use?
10th stage, mechanically rotates the N2 for engine starting
What are the bleed air sources that can be used for engine start?
External air start/cart or bottle
When does CONT IGN come on automatically?
What valves open when Start switch is selected? Which close?
OPEN: L/R 10th stage, 10th stage ISOL, ATS valve
CLOSE: pack 1/2
When must the engine stay at idle?
If the oil pressure is high and not in the green band, or 2 minutes whichever is longer
When can the engine be shut down?
After 2 minutes of idle or near idle
What are the different thrust limits?
What is the min reduced thrust for 3A1 engines? 3B1?
What is required for the Thrust reverses to be armed?
LH and RH switches armed and 14th SOV open
What protects the system if a TR is deployed in flight?
Automatic thrust lever retard system
Emergency stow system will redirect the 14th stage bleed air if the automatic thrust lever retard system fails
Which has priority for the 14th stage bleed air, the thrust reversers or the anti-ice equipment?
The thrust reversers
What happens in regards to APR if an engine is lost after T/O?
APR is armed for 5 min, will give an extra 2% on operating engine
When must the APR be selected OFF? (3A1 engines only)
When ambient temp is less than -18*C and the PA is less than 1000ft
What must be done differently if APR INOP? What is done when APR INOP is encountered?
APR OFF performance calculations must be made
APR system must be turned off
When does the Fan Vibration gauge appear?
When engine oil pressure is normal
Does N2 have a vibration gauge?
Not visible, but it is continuously monitored
Will a caution msg be indicated during an abnormal vibration?
NO, crew must check QRH when in amber arc or N2 VIB is displayed
When will oil pressure gauges reappear?
If engine oil drops or is low while engines are running
When must continuous ignition be used?
Flight through moderate/heavy rain
Flight though mod/heavy turbulence
Xwind greater than 10kts (CRJ 200)
T/O and Landing Contaminated runways
Vicinity of thunderstorms
What happens when the ENG SPEED switches are moved to the OFF position when high power is set?
A rapid increase in ITT and RPM will occur and max limits may be exceeded
L / R ENG OIL PRESS warning msg will appear when ?
L / R engine oil pressure <25 psi
When does the starter disengage?
55% N2 (N2 controls ATS)
