Answer 1

-find mass of aluminium block with top pan balance
-put insulation around block
-pour some oil into the thermometer hole to ensure good thermal contact
-place the heater and thermometer in block
-set power supply to 12v and connect immersion heater and ammeter in series
-connect voltmeter in parallel
-record initial temp
-switch on heater and start stopwatch- leave it on for 10mins
-switch off and monitor temp until it starts to drop
