Budget is:
A single use financial plan that covers a specified length of time. It describes in numerical terms resources allocated to organizational activities.
Schedule is:
A commitment of resources and labor to tasks with specific time frames.
Communicate plans are divided into 2 categories:
1. Standing use plans - are those that are used on a continuous basis to achieve consistently repeated objectives. (Policies, Procedures & Rules).
2. Single use plans - are those that are used once to achieve unique objectives or objectives that are seldom repeated. (Programs, Budget & Schedule).
Mission:
A mission statement is a broad general goal of an organization that describes its purpose in the community.
Organizational Philosophy:
It is expressed in mission statements & depicts the desired nature of the relationships between health service organizations, customers, employees and external constituents.
A statement of philosophy is a valuable management tool.
Goals
Goals are the broad statements of overall intent of an organization or individual.
They are usually stated in general
terms.
The purpose of writing goals is to identify where you are going and to enable you to evaluate when you have arrived there.
The levels of goals are:
1. Institutional Level - serve as the guiding compass for any educational institution. They include vision, mission, and values that drive the institution forward based on the community’s health needs.
2. Nursing Department Level - the goals of the institution affect those of nursing service, which must support and complement institutional goals.
3. The Nursing Unit Level - It is important that each employee understand the institutional and nursing department goals, because the group or unit goals develop from them.
The four Decisional Roles of a manager are:

- Figurehead: all managers, but especially senior managers.
- Liaison: involves formal and informal internal and external contacts.
- Influencer: includes activities inherent in the directing function, the purpose of which is to motivate and lead.
