Precipitation Equations Rules

A

Product is: 1+4,3+2

e.g: (Lead(1) nitrate(2) + potassium(3) iodide(4)) = (Lead iodide + Potassium Nitrate)

Q

Rules to spot spectator ions!

A
  • Nitrate = All spectator
  • Chlorides = Mostly spectator; silver + lead chlorides are precipitate
  • Sulphates = Mostly Spectator; barium and lead sulphates are precipiate
  • Carbonates = mostly precipiate; sodium and potassium carbonates are spectator.
