Q

What are the components of a basic population model?

A

birth factors = sex ratio, recruitment, natality, age structure

death factors = disease, predation, harvest, auto collisions

immigration = coming into a population

emigration = leaving a population

Q

Explain these graphs

A

Different reptiles have different patterns of sex distribution based on temperature while eggs are developing. In the first, higher temperatures result in a higher percentage of females. In the second, there is a window of idea temperatures that result in favorable distributions.

Q

What is mortality rate and how is it described? What could explain the mortality rate curves for the species pictured?

A

The red deer and sheep pictured see spikes in mortality rate during their peak fertility years because they are sought after by hunters as trophies during those years
