She goes to a hotel with Rasheed to ring Jalil for financial support, only to find out he is dead, and then relfects on when he came to see her all those years ago and she ignored him and she feels regretful

She recognises a man from the hotel, the day she rang toe government, as Abdul Sharif, hte sam man who came to dleiver the bad news to Laila about Tariq’s death, therefore leading her to think Rasheed paid him to come and tell Laila that information to keep her from leaving

After Zalami tells Rasheed at dinner that Laila has had a male guest round the house, and Rasheed instantly knows who it is, there is rapid, successive cuts between Laila’s and Tariq’s conversation about his life now, and the dinner scene.
45- What does Rasheed do after te discovery that Tariq has been round to their house to see Laila?
He sends Zalami upstairs and begin beating Laila, and Mariam has this rush of anger and frustration at Rasheed, and her life in general, quesitoning what had her or Laila done to deserve this? Mariam sees a glint in Rasheed’s eyes, showing her he has murder on his mind, and she rushes out to the shed to grab the shovel, and hits him over the head with it, relaising it’s now or never, she does it again and kills Rasheed.
