How Chinese managers give feedback?
They never criticize a colleague openly or infant of others.
What are upgraders words?
Words preceding or following negative feedback that make it feel stronger, such as “absolutely, totally, strongly”. They are typical for more direct cultures.
What are downgraders words?
Words that soften the criticism, such as “kind of, sort of, a little, a bit, maybe, slightly”. They are ides in more indirect cultures. The British a re masters in them.
What is evaluating scale?
It provides a bird’s eye view of just how direct people in different cultures are with negative criticism.
Which nationalities are the most direct?
Rusian, German, Dutch, Israeli, dannish, Norwegian, French
Which nationalities are the least direct?
Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, Korea, Ghana, Saudi Arabia
Low-context and direct negative feedback
Communication is easy to decode. Take any messages they send literally and understand that it is not intended to be offensive but rather as a simple sign of honesty, transparency and respect for your own professionalism, eg. Dutch.

Complex cultures thet can speak and listen between the lines yet give negative feedback, eg. Russian. Cure- build your own awareness and replace upgraders with downgrades.
Low-context nad indirect negative feedback
Combining extreme low-context communication with a mid-indirect approach to giving negative feedback. How to work with them: be explicit and low-context with both positive and negative feedback. Second, try over time to be balanced in the amount of positive and negative feedback you give. Third, frame your behavior in cultural terms.
High - context and indirect negative feedback
Negative feedback is generally soft, subtle and implicite. Any negative feedback should be given in private.
How to deal with them- don’t give feedback in front of the a group. Secondly, blur the message(say the good and leave out the bad).
