When a patient appears hypovolemic what saline should be given as resus (and in what 2 acute scenarios would this be dangerous to do)?

A

500ml of 0.9% crystalloid saline over 15mins.

Unless the patient is showing signs of ACS/ congestive heart failure, or severe septic shock

Q

After an initial resus fluid amount, how much can you give (avg) per review, and at what point should a specialist be called?

A

on every review (minimal of daily) a bolus of 250 - 500ml can be given. Then call someone after they have either reached euvolia or 2L has been given
