the voltage drop in a parallel circuit is equal on both sides, therefore taking a top branch’s voltage drop and adding it to the final resistors voltage drop should equal total voltage from KVL (VT = v1 + v2)

however, when calculating F = ma, this m is the entire weight of the system, not just the bottom weight.
