Receptors & Effectors. Flashcards
Where do receptors found in the body?
In sense organs (eyes, nose, mouth, skin)
Where do receptors found in the body?
In sense organs: eye, nose, mouth, skin.
What are the functions of receptors?
To detect stimulus.
What are The functions of skin receptors?
Recognize sensation of pain, pressure, heat, & motion.
Define effector?
Is a cell or group of cell that produce response to a stimulus.
Mention examples of the effectors?
Muscles or glands
What is the reflex?
Is an involuntary response to a stimulus.
For example: moving the hand away from flame
How a reflex would be created?
By reflex arc
What is the reflex arc?
Is a direct neural connection between a sensory nerve signal & a motor nerve signal.
For example: knee-jerk reflex
Explain the knee-jerk reflex? [VIP]
1-tapping on the tendons below the knee would stimulate a sensory neuron.
2- the sensory neuron connects in spinal cord with motor neuron the causes the quadriceps muscle to contract.
3- the contraction of the quadriceps at the same time with relaxation of hamstring muscle causes the leg t0 move up & forward.
What is the importance of reflexes?
1- it allow very fast action without the need of thinking & analysis.
2- reflexes are the body’s way of making quick decisions to avoid danger and ensure survival
From where to the motor response originates?
From spinal cord.
What is the role of the interneuron in spinal cord?
It activates spiral motor neuron without the delay of signaling through the brain.
Do all reflexes originate from the brain?
No, some reflexes of the head & neck involveinterneurons In the brain.
