Redox reactions- chemistry Flashcards

1
Q

What is the displacement reaction between chlorine displacing iodine from potassium iodide?

A

Cl2 (aq) + 2KI (aq) = I2 (aq) + 2KCL (aq)

When this reaction happens electrons are passed from the iodine to the chlorine

Cl2 (aq) + 2I (aq) = 2Cl (aq) + I2 (aq)

  • Chlorine is reduced (so it is an oxidising agent)
  • Iodine in oxidised (so it is a reducing agent)
