Registers Flashcards
The fe cycle is performed by the ________ millions of times every _________
cpu,second
What is this cycle for?
it is how the cpu processes data and instructions for each program of service that requires it’s attention
What is a register?
a small temporary storage space for temporary data in the cpu
What are the 3 essential registers?
the pc , mar , mdr ( program counter ,memory address register, memory data register)
What does the pc do?
A register that tracks the ram address of the next instructions to be fetched
what does the mar do?
A register that tracks the ram address of the next instructions that is to be fetched
what does the mar stand for?
memory address register
what does the mdr do?
stores the instruction that has been transferred to the ram from the cpu
what does the mdr stand for
memory data register
what does the cir do?
store the instruction that has been fetched from the ram and is about to be decoded or executed
what does the cir stand for ?
current instruction register
what does the cir do?
a reister that stores an instruction that has been fetched from the ram and is about to be decoded or executed
What does the acc do?
it stores the result of mathematical or logical calculations
What does the acc stand for?
accumulator
