A

Religion is a belief of something It is spiritual, and usually consists one or more almighty Gods. It is something people can believe in.

A

People believe in religion as it gives them something to look up to and trust. It also can give people purpose.

Religion influences our society in many ways. For example it creates communities, and also stirs up intense arguments and media attention.

9 aspects of Christmas?

A

Beliefs - marks the birth of Jesus. Jesus is a prophecy. Prepared for during advent
Sacred stories - the nativity story. The prophecy the messiah is coming.
Ethics - family and friends enjoy each others company.
Spaces - churches and family homes
Places - Bethlehem and Jerusalem
Times - During the 4th century. The council of Nicea sets the date of 25th of December.
Artefacts - Candles, gold, frankincense, myrh
Texts - Old and New Testament
Rituals - midnight mass, Christmas Day mass, receiving the Eucharist, coming together with family and friends.

What is a pilgrimage?

A

Is a journey or search of moral or spiritual significance. Typically a journey to a shrine or other location of importance.

What are the six stages of a pilgrimage?

A

The call - Feeling or yearning of a spiritual journey to find something in someones life.
The separation - Leaving behind the safe and familiar to be free from life obligations
The journey - The journey of pain the pilgrim takes.
The contemplation - think through the problems and issues in there life.
The encounter - The sighting of the climax of the journey, the ending place.
The completion and return - the pilgrim returns home, and their life has changed forever.

Religious pilgrimage?

A

The Camino Way. A five week walk through Spain, to The Church of St James, (shrine). The walk is to become close to god and find self-discovery.

Non-religous pilgrimage?

A

Anzac pilgrimage. People will want to feel close to or thank the soldiers, so will go on a journey though Gallipoli, or the Kokoda trail, and end at the dawn service.

9 aspects of The Camino Way?

A

Beliefs - people want to become close to god and find themselves.
Sacred stories - Believed that they travel on the path St James walked to preach Christianity, before he was killed. The church of st James, where the pilgrims end up, is said to of been built over St. James’ body.
Spaces - The church of st James
Places - Spain
Times - earliest pilgrims in middle of 10th century
Artefacts - rocks left at the foot of the post from thousands of years of pilgrims.
Texts - Pilgrimage road to Santiago: the complete cultural handbook
Rituals - people would wake at same time every morning, walk and then stay in the next village.
Symbols - the arrows and shells
Social structures - everyone is equal on pilgrimages.
Spiritual experiences - the pain the pilgrims go through, physically and mentally, make people closer to god. People who go on pilgrimages are never the same afterwards.
