Renal Flashcards
How does auto regulation respond to a rise in blood pressure?
The afferent arteriole is constricted to limit blood flow
How does auto regulation respond to a decrease in blood pressure?
The afferent arteriole is dilated to increase blood flow
What are the renal nerves and what do they do?
Autonomic Sympathetic nerves vasoconstrict
Autonomic parasympathetic nerves vasodilate
What are the humoral factors that have an effect on renal blood flow?
Vasopressin, angiotensin II and adrenalin vasoconstrict the afferent arteriole
Dopamine dilated the afferent arteriole
How is the kidney’s blood flow regulated?
Autoregulation
Renal nerves
Humoral factors in the blood
What is reabsorbed in the PCT?
All of glucose, amino acids and lactate.
Two thirds of sodium, potassium, chloride, bicarbonate and water
What is water reabsorption in the PCT called and why?
The obligatory phase because water reabsorption is not independently regulated, it follows the reabsorbed NaCl.
