Reproductive Male Flashcards
Primary male organs
Tested
How is gender determined
Determined by type of sperm that fertilizes mothers egg. X carrying sperm makes female. Y carrying sperm makes male
What is testis determining factor? Location?
Sry gene found only in males. Code for the protein tdf. This initiates development of testes
Seminal vesicle
Pair of gland posterior to bladder. Empties into ejaculatory duct. This fluid makes up about 70% of semen
Boulbourethral gland
Near bulb of penis. during arousal, produce a clear slippery fluid that lubricates head. Clear out urine before ejaculation
Prostate gland
Surrounds urethra. A ejaculatory duct inferior to bladder. Secretion forms 30% of semen.
Spermatic cord
Collection of vessels. Nerves and ducts that run to and from the testes. Begins in inferior abdomen and ending in scrotum.
Epididymis
Tube that connects testicle to vas deferens
Rete testis
A network on the posterior side of the testis that collects sperm from seminiferous tubules
Seminiferous tubules
Ducts where sperm are produced.
Vas defernes
Muscular tube, passing up from the scrotum though inguinal canal to posterior surface of bladder.
Corpus spongiosum
Fills with blood during sexual arousal. Ventral side of penis. Distal end enlarges and forms the glands
Corpus cavernosum
Divides into y. Each arm, called a crus, attaches penis to pubic arch. Also fills with blood during arousal
Scrotum
Pouch of skin containing testes. Extend anteriorly along central side of penis
Cremaster muscle
Strips of the internal abdominal oblique muscle. Regulates temp in scrotum. In cold weather, draws testes upward. In warm weather, relaxes testes further from the body.
