resp 5 Flashcards

1
Q

what is perfusion

A

Perfusion is the flow of fluid or blood to cells and tissues. It is important because blood delivers oxygen and nutrients to cells.

Q

where in the pleura do you have a more positve pressure when you are standing up?

A

at the bottom because the lung drps down, causing a small change in pressure around the pluera

Q

what happens to the pulmonary arterioles when there is a decrease in O2

A

they will restrict and cut off blood flow?

but why this is couter intuitive?

because if there is a region in the lung not working, there is not point in sending blood to them.

Q

to avoid hypoxia and hypercapnia the body has sensors to monitor the arterial blood and respond to three variables

A
  1. Oxygen-ATP production
  2. CO2 - CNS depressant/acid precurser
  3. pH - denaturating of protiens
