respiratory Flashcards
s/a node
starts each heart beat and sets the pace for the entire heart.
purkinje fibres
conveys action potential throughout the ventricular walls resulting in a wringing contraction of the ventricle
A/V node
action potential delayed briefly , for an atria to finish contracting.
internodal pathway
link between the sa and av node
a/v bundle
transmits action potentials rapidly from av node partway along the intraoventricular septum.
bundle branches
splits into2 branches, conveying impulses along the intraventricular septum
endocardium
the lining of the inner surface of the heart
second heart sound
occurs when semi-lunar valves close at the end of the systole
veins
vessels that carry blood back to the heart
myocardium
striated muscle fibres under involuntery control
chordae tendinae
heart strings- anchor the valve cusps to the ventricular wall
semi-lunar valves
prevents blood flowing into the ventricles during diastole
atrioventricular valves
prevents blood flowing back into atria during systole
The heart
-the heart is a involuntry muscular pump- it contains a one way valve sytem and its purpose is to generate pressure which moves blood.
Heart diagram
-when referring to left and right side of heart on diagram-hold diagram against heart and then use normal lest and rights.
