Q

What is the optimal level of arousal and what is the effect it has on an athlete>

A

Optimal arousal is where the performance of the athlete is at its best because things like their reaction time becomes quicker and they can screen out relevant information focusing properly on the goal at hand.

Q

What happens when an athlete becomes over aroused?

A
  • Important cues are missed causing performance levels to decrease
  • The athlete becomes so tightly focused on the performance or one aspect of the display (attention narrowing)

Q

What is drive theory in arousal?

A

The performer has tried harder (increased drive/arousal)
When the arousal become too high the performance level will decrease.
When the performer is at optimal arousal, their performance will be the ebst.

Q

What happens when arousal level increase?

A

The performance levels of the athlete will increase until after they pass their optimal arousal point. When an athlete goes past optimal arousal their performance levels will begin to decrease.

Q

What is the zone of optimal functioning (ZOF) in arousal?

A

Suggests that optimal arousal doesn’t occur at a specific point, but within a band width where a performer achieves their maximum attention capacity
