Delusions
False beliefs that are strongly held despite evidence that they can’t be true
Hallucinations
False perceptions in the absence of sensory input.
E.g’s of Delusions
Persecution: Belief that others are persecuting, spying on or trying to harm them
Guilt: Belief they have committed a terrible sin
Grandeur: Belief they have great knowledge, power or talent
E.g’s of Hallucinations
Visual: Seeing something that is not actually there
Auditory: Hearing voices that may offer commentary on your behaviour, instruct you to behave in a certain way or insult you
Olfactory: Smelling odours that do not exist
Two - hit hypothesis Model
Provides framework to explain the relationship between genetic and environmental risk factors associated with schizophrenia
1st hit: Gene in which you develop from your parents
2nd hit: Triggers schizophrenic symptoms. Symptoms can appear after a personally traumatic or stressful event.

Originate from a persons environment
Locus of control
A persons perception of whether or not they are in control of their behaviour or if it controlled by their environment
Internal Locus
Refers to a person’s perception that their behaviour is determined by internal factors.
External Locus
A person’s perception that their behaviour is governed by outside influences such as luck
Lazarus and Folkmans model
Emphasises psychological or cognitive processes involved in dealing with a stressful situation
Primary appraisal: Determines if event is harm, threat or challenge and if it as personal relevance or not
Secondary Appraisal: considers what actions are available and how they’ll respond
