Rheumatoid arthritis Flashcards
Causes of Rheumatoid arthritis ?
T-cells secrete Cytokines: Interferon alpha, -17
-> Synovial cells proliferate -> Create a pannus: Thick, swollen synovial membrane with granulation tissue
What is rheaumatoid arthritis ?
It is a chronic polyarticular disorder which is characterised by an inflammation primarily of the synovial tissue of the joints.
Most common and most serious inflammatory arthritis
Onset of RA ?
Triggered by environmental factors on the basis of a genetic predisposition in combination with altered immune responses.
Tobacco and Porphyromonas gingivalis during peridontal diseases favour : Anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide antibodies which has a role in the pathogenesis
Synovial hyperplasia -> joint destruction
