I: lateral surface of gr trochanter of femur
A: abduct and MR of thigh; keeps pelvis level when ipsi is weight bearing and other is in the swing phase

O: ilium posterior to posterior gluteal line; dorsal surface of sacrum and coccyx; sacrotuberous ligament
I: iliotibial tract, lateral condyle of tibia; gluteal tuberosity
A: extend thigh and assist in lateral rotation; steadies thigh and assists in standing up
N: inferior gluteal nerve
