Science- Heat Flashcards
To get mtichell to study by himself!! lol i love this app it is solo amazing!! i get awesome marks with its help!
What is the caloric theory?
Coloric is a fluid with heat in it.
When a colder object touches a warmer object, the caloric fluid flows from the warmer object into the cooler object.
What are the 4 different types of matter?
Liquid- molecule have a rapid random motion
Solid- molecules vibrate in place
Gas- molecules have very rapid, random motion
Plasma- it moves super-charged and has very, very fast and random motion
How does matter change from liquid to solid?
through freezing
How does matter change from solid to liquid?
through melting
How does matter change from liquid to gas?
through evapouration
How does matter change from gas to liquid?
through condensation
What happened to corn when you put in into boiling water?
When you first pour it in, it goes to the bottom. As heat rises the corn rises and when boiling they spin around
What is scientific method? in order
- Purpose- state the problem, the question and what are you trying to figure out?
- Hypothesis- A guess what you think will happen before you start the experiment
- Materials- list in point form, the materials you and anyone trying to repeat this experiment will need
- Method- lost the step by step instructions of how to do the experiment
- Observations- explain what you saw smell, heard, thought and if safe, tasted
- Conclusion- review and summarize what you have learned. Use science vocabulary. DO not write whether your hypothesis was right or wrong.
What is deposition?
It is a gas that turns into a solid
What is sublimation?
it is a solid turning into a gas
What is matter?
Matter is anything that takes up space and has a mass.
What are solids?
some matter has a shape that you can see and feel. A solid is a form of amter that keeps its shape. It will not change shape by itself.
What are liquids?
Some matter has no shape of its own. a liquid is a form of matter that take the shape of its container.
What are gases?
Breathe in. What is inside your lungs? Is it air? Air is a form of gas. A gas is a form of matter that has no shape of its own , it spreads out to fill the shape that is leftover by solids and liquids
What is the particle theory of heat?
When heat is added, particles move faster. When heat is taken away, particles move slower.
