Science Test Lesson 2 INQUIRY SKILLS Flashcards
Use numbers
To use numbers to experiment and learn.
Predict
To use your knowledge to guess what will happen next.
Observe
To make an observation - information you gather from your senses.
Infer
To make an inference - an untested conclusion based on information.
Compare
To describe how things are different and the same.
Classify/Order
To sort objects or place objects in order - helps you to see patterns.
Use Time and Space Relationships
To understand how objects and events affect each other. You also need to know the order in which events happen.
Communicate
To share the results of your experiment.
Measure
To measure the results of your experiments. Measuring allows you to compare your results to those of others anywhere.
Formulate or Use Models
To use a model to help you understand how something works. Models help scientists understand things that are too big, small, fast, slow, or dangerous to observe in person.
Hypothesize
To hypothesize and experiment to solve a more complex problem.
Identify and Control Variables
To make a fair test, you must identify the variables - the things that can change in the experiment. Then you need to control, or keep the same, all the variables except the one that you are changing for the experiment.
Draw Conclusions
To decide what the results mean after your have conducted the experiment.
Gather/Record/interpret/Display Data
To gather, record, interpret, and display data using a graph, table or map.
Plan and Conduct a Simple Investigation
To use a simple investigation to solve a simple problem.
