Scotland
Formerly an independent nation, Scotland united with England in 1708 to form the United Kingdom
Scotland has its own legal system.
The preservation of this system was part of the treaty of union
Scots law
Can be very different to English law and the legal structures are also different
Scots law is described as a mixed legal system.
Combines element of the English common law and continental civilian traditions.
Scots lawyers can sometimes look to places like Louisiana or sir Lanka or Germany or South Africa for legal comparisons rather than looking to England

Laws affecting Scotland may be made by the EU, by the Westminster Parliament and by the Holyrood Parliament
