Bupropion

A

–Trade Name: Zyban
–Non-nicotinic tablet
–antidepressant found in Wellbutrin
–Depressed patients are less likely to quit
–improve patients’ mood and emotional state
–Side effects: insomnia and dry mouth
–reduce withdrawal symptoms and cravings
–usual length 12-24 weeks
–tablets should be taken with 8oz water and after meals

Indications for: Nitric Oxide

A

–reduces pulmonary artery pressure and increases oxygenation in newborns with persistent pulmonary hypertension and hypoxia
–used in conjunction with ventilatory support and other critical care modalities
–Pulmonary Vasodilator is the gas used

Nitric Oxide

A

-Dosage and Admin: cylinders are either 100 or 800 ppm
–recommended dose is 20ppm
-Treatment: maintained up to 14 days or until underlying oxygenation problem is resolved
-No response is shown at higher concentration

–no effect with normal pulmonary vascular resistance
–No dilates the pulmonary vasculature to distributed blood flow to areas of better ventilation, this in return decreases BP and improves O2
