different types of sentences
Simple, compound, complex, compound - complex
what constitutes these sentence types?
Simple - an independent clause
compound - 2 independent clauses
complex - 1 dependent clauses and 1 independent clause
compound - complex: 2 independent clauses 1 dependent clause
write these sentences.
simple - I am simple.
compound - I am simple and I like basketball.
complex - When I lived in Malawi, I liked soccer.
compound - complex : I like playing cards but I like it more when I’m winning.
3 word to describe direct and indirect objects.
direct - thing done to
indirect - receiver of doing
define phrases and clause; give examples
phrases - group of word that can be expressed as various parts of a sentence.
e.g. sack of bones - noun
clause - group of words that have a subject and predicate. others are not so clear on their own to make sentences. e.g. “I’m that guy”
define relative clauses in 2 words.

definite relative clauses - define the subject.
e.g. I met a guy whose name’s Dave.
these clauses do not need commas before or after them.
indefinite relative clauses - explain the subject.
e.g. Mary Jane, the greatest singer alive, came to visit me.
