What was Beringia and why was it important?
Between 13,000 to 7,000 BCE, a land bridge exisited between Asia and North America that we now call “Beringia”. The first inhabitants of what would be named the Americas migrated across this bridge in search of food. When the glaciers melted, water engulfed Beringia, and the Bering Strait was formed. Later settlers came by boat across the narrow strait. Continually moving southward, the settlers eventually populated both North and South America.
When did the domestication of plants and animals begin?
Around ten thousand years ago.
When was corn domesticated?
Around 5,000 BCE.
When did Leif Ericson arrive in present-day Canada?
Around 1,000 CE.
When did Columbus arrive in the Bahamas?
October 12th, 1492.
