Trapezius

A: Bilaterally extend head and neck
Unilaterally laterally flex head/neck, rotate head/neck opposite side, elevate, upwardly rotate scapula
Middle fibers adduct & stabilize scapula
Lower fibers depress & upwardly rotate scapula

O: External occipital protuberance, medial portion of superior nuchal line of occiput, ligamentum nuchae and spinous process of C7-T12

I: Lateral 1/3 of clavicle, acromion and spine of scapula

N: Spinal portion of cranial nerve XI and ventral ramus C2, 3, 4

Latissimus Dorsi

A: Extend, adduct, and medically rotate shoulder

O: Inferior angle of scapula, spinous processes of last 6 thoracic vertebrae, last 3-4 ribs, thoracolumbar aponeurosis and posterior iliac crest

I: Intertubercular groove of humerus

N: Thoracodorsal C6, 7, 8

Teres Major

A: Extend, adduct, and medically rotate shoulder

O: Inferior angle and lower 1/3 of lateral border of scapula

I: Crest of the lesser tubercle of the humerus

N: Lower sub scapular C5, 6, 7

Supraspinatus

A: Adduct and stabilize shoulder

O: Supraspinous fossa of scapula

I: Greater tubercle of humerus

N: Suprascapular C4, 5, 6

Infraspinatus

A: Laterally rotate, adduct, and stabilize shoulder

O: Infraspinous fossa of scapula

I: Greater tubercle of the humerus

N: Suprascapular C4, 5, 6

Teres Minor

A: Laterally rotate, adduct, and stabilize shoulder

O: Upper 2/3 of lateral border of the scapula

I: Greater tubercle of the humerus

N: Axillary C5, 6

Subscapularis

A: Medially rotate, stabilize shoulder

O: Subscapular fossa

I: Lesser tubercle

N: Upper/ lower subscapular C5, 6, 7

Rhomboid Major

A: Adduct, elevate, and downwardly rotate scapula

O: SP T2- T5

I: Medial border or scapula between spine and inferior angle of scapula

N: Dorsal scapular C4, 5

Rhomboid Minor

A: Adduct, elevate, downwardly rotate scapula

O: SP C7- T1

I: Upper portion of medial border of spine and inferior angle of scapula

N: Dorsal scapular C4, 5

Lector Scapula

A: Unilaterally elevate & downwardly rotate scapula and laterally flex & rotate head/neck same side
Bilaterally extend neck

O: TP of C1- C4

I: Medial border of scapula between superior angle and superior portion of spine of scapula

N: C3, 4, 5

Serratus Anterior

A: Abduct, upwardly rotate, depress, and hold scapula

O: External surface of upper 8 or 9 ribs

I: Anterior surface of medial border of scapula

N: Long thoracic C5, 6, 7, 8

Pectoralis Major

A: All fibers adduct and Medially rotate shoulder
Upper fibers flex and horizontally adduct shoulder
Lower fibers extend shoulder

O: Medial 1/2 of clavicle, sternum, and cartilage of 1-6th ribs

I: Creat of greater tubercle of humerus

N: Upper C5-7
Lower C6- T1

Pectoralis Minor

A: Depress, adduct, downwardly rotate scapula

O: 3-4 ribs

I: Medial surface of coracoid process of scapula

N: Medial pectoral C6, 7, 8, T1

Subclavius

A: Depress clavicle, elevate 1st rib, stabilize sternoclavicular joint

O: 1st rib and cartilage

I: Inferior surface of middle 1/3 of clavicle

N: Subclavian C5, 6

Biceps Brachii

A: Flex elbow, supinate forearm, and flex shoulder

O: Short head: Coracoid process
Long head: Supraglenoid tubercle of scapula

I: Tuberosity of radius and aponeurosis of biceps brachii

N: C5, 6

Triceps Brachii

A: All heads extend elbow
Long head extends and adducts shoulder

O: Long: Infraglenoid tubercle of scapula
Lateral head: Posterior surface of proximal 1/2 of humerus
Medial head: Posterior surface of distal 1/2 of humerus

I: Olecranon process of ulna

N: C6, 7, 8, T1

Coracobrachialis

A: Flex and adduct shoulder

O: Coracoid process of scapula

I: Medial surface of mid-humeral shaft

N: C6, 7

Deltoid

A: All fibers abduct
Anterior fibers flex, medically rotate, and horizontally adduct
Posterior fibers extend, laterally rotate, horizontally abduct

O: Lateral 1/3 of clavicle, acromion and spine of scapula

I: Deltoid tuberosity

N: Axillary C5-6
