Skeletal Muscle Flashcards
Tendon
Dense connective tissue;made up of epi, peri, endo all come together and connect
Fascia
Dense tough tissue that surrounds the entire muscle; every muscle is surrounded by fascia
Epimysium
Under fascia; light delicate connective tissue compartmentalizes the muscle; also surrounds the entire muscle
Perimysium
Bundles of muscle fibers are surrounded by this; is also light and delicate connective tissue membrane
Fascicle
Bundle of muscle fibers surrounded by a perimysium
Endomysium
Each individual muscle fiber has a connective tissue membrane
Sarcolemma
Skeletal muscle cell membrane
Myofibrils
Small muscle fibers; long chain of sarcomeres
(Mausoleum fibers are made up of many myofibrils)
Cytosol
Fluid that’s between the myofibrils
Transverse tubule
Extension of sarcolemma
“Run perpendicular to sarcolemma”
Sarcoplasmic reticulum
Serves as storage site for intracellular calcium
Terminal Cisternae
All the tubes and channels are connected and form little pools; the pools are apart of the sarcoplasmic reticulum
What is the triad region?
1 T. Tubule and 2 terminal cisternae
Sarcomere
Region of a myofibrils extending from z-line to z-line; smallest functional unit of skeletal muscle (this is also where contraction takes place)
Contractile unit
Where contraction takes place
