Social Area Flashcards
What are the 4 core studies in the social area
Milgram
Bocchiaro
Piliavin
Levine
What is the first key principle of the social area
Human thought processes an behaviour can be strongly influenced by the presence of individuals and groups
What is the second principle of the social area
This area assumes that our behaviour is determined by the social environment, this influences us even when we are alone and affects how we relate to others around us along with our intentions for future behaviours
What are we strengths of the social area and what study do they link to
Provides a situational explanation of behaviour - provide an understanding of how different social sotuation strongly influence behaviour so explain extreme behaviour ie milgram
It studies behaviour in a scientific way so increases internal validity ie Levine
What are 2 weaknesses of the social area and what studies do they link to
Creates artifical situations which can be unethical and can cause research to lose credibility and participants ie milgram
The research can be considered ethnocentric as its often carried out in one culture so can’t be generalised ie bocchiaro individualist
What is a strength and weakness of the social and behaviourist perspective
What is a difference
Both use standardised procedures
Both ethnocentric
Social more unethical
What is a strength and weakness of the social and psychodynamic perspective
What is a weakness
Both ecologically valid
Both have limited samples
Social more unethical
