Sound Storage Flashcards

1
Q

How is sound stored in binary

A

The analogue recording is sampled and stored digitally. Then the amplitude of the sound wave is sampled at regular intervals and then converted into binary.

Q

How will increasing the sample rate affect sound files(2)

A

Increasing the sample rate will increase how many samples of the wavelength are taken per second this will increase the quality of the file making it closer to the original . However the file size will increase.

Q

How will increasing the bit depth affect the sound file(2)

A

Increasing the bit depth will increase the number of bits available for each sample this will mean that the sound will be closer to the original. However this will also increase the file size.
