Spinal Cord, Peripheral Nervous System and Reflex Flashcards
Epidural
Area containing adipose that acts like a cushion for the spinal cord
Dura Mater
Outermost protective layer of spinal cord
Arachnoid Mater
Middle protective of the spinal cord
Subarachnoid Space
Space with the protective layer filled with CSF
Pia Mater
Innermost protective layer of spinal cord
Central Canal
Interior tube in the spinal cord filled CSF
Ventral (Anterior) Root
Contains motor axons exiting spinal cord
Doral (Posterior) Root
Contains sensory axon entering spinal cord
Dorsal (Posterior) Root Ganglion
Contains sensory neuron cell bodies
Dorsal (Posterior) Horn
Contains association neuron cell bodies
Ventral ( Anterior) Horn
Contain motor neuron cell bodies
Ascending tract
Myelinated axon that carries sensory information to brain
Descending tract
Myelinated axon that carries motor impulse away from brain
Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF)
Transport nutrients and gases to nervous tissue: cushions spinal cord
Motor Neuron
Carries impulse from CNS to effector
