Define Self-paced skill
When the performer decides to start it. The speed, rate or pace of the skill is controlled by the performer.
Define Externally Paced Skill
The skill is started because of an external factor, the speed, rate and pace is made by an external factor eg. Opponent
Define Open skills
A skill which is performed to deal with a changing or unstable environment
Define closed skill
A skill which isn’t effected by the environment or performers within it. It tends to be done the same way every time eg. Diving, javelin.
Define Gross Skills
A skill that uses large muscle groups to perform big, strong, powerful movements.
Define Fine skills
A skill involving small, precise movements showing high levels of accuracy and coordination, involving a small group of muscles.
Define skill
A learned action with the intention of bringing about pre-determined results
Define ability
Inherited, stable traits that enable/ determine potential to learning new skills
What is a complex skill
Lots of decisions to be made, tend to be taught after experienced success in basic skills, can take considerable time to master and involve a high level of coordination and concentration
What is a basic skill
Few decisions and little concentration, tend to be taught as a beginner, learnt fairly quickly.
