Topic 2 Static Electricty Flashcards

1
Q

Why’d shocks and sparks happen

A

Static electricity are charges not free to move causing them to build up in one place until they finally move

7
Q

Why does a material have a positive charge

A

Electrons are lost which means it loses some negative charge and is left with an equal positive charge

Q

Why do we get shocked/ sparked

A

As electric charge builds on an object the pd between object and earth (0v) increases
When pd gets large enough electrons can jump across the gap between the charged object and the earth causing spark
Can also jump to earth conductor which is why we get static shocks
Usually happens when small
