What is the stave?

A

Music is written on a set of 5 lines called a stave. Notes are on the lines or in the spaces between the lines. The higher they up the stave, the higher the pitch. The lower down the stave, the lower the pitch.

What are leger lines?

A

If a note is too high or too low to fit on the stave, leger lines are used above or below the stave to represent the position of the note. The notes transitioning from bass to treble are BCD.

How are notes drawn?

A

Notes on and above the middle line have stems that go down. Notes below the middle line have stems that go up.
The tails of the notes are always to the right.
