Disease Mode

Spiritual Model:
Focuses on lack of spiritual connection and struggles with finding meaning or purpose.
Moral Model:
Views addiction as a moral failing or weakness of character.
Prevalence of Substance Use
-48.7 million individuals aged 12 or older had Substance Use Disorder (SUD) in the past year.
-70.3 million individuals aged 12 or older used illicit drugs, with marijuana being the most commonly used.
Substance-Use Disorders (SUDs)
marked by impaired control, social impairment, risky use, and pharmacological criteria.
-Gambling Disorder
Substance-Induced Disorders
encompass substance intoxication, withdrawal, and substance/medication-induced mental disorders.

Non-Substance Addictive Disorders
Include gambling disorder characterized by persistent and recurrent problematic gambling behavior.
Treatment options include medications, twelve-step interventions, group therapy, outpatient counseling, and inpatient rehab.
