Surface marking of lungs Flashcards
Describe the posterior surface markings of the lungs
Continue 2.5 cm above the clavicle
Descend posteriorly 2cm either side of spinous prcoesses
Come across the 10th rib horizontally and join the lungs at the mid-axillary line
Pleura
Follow same surface marking at the lungs apart from inferiorly
At the mid axillary line at the 10th rib and posteriorly at the 12th rib.
Oblique fissure
can be drawn from spinous process at t3 down and laterally
Follows the line of medial border of scapula and to the 5th rib at the mid axillary line.
Get patient to abduct to get the medial border
Continues to 6th costal cartilage anteriorly
Middle lobe (female)
Horizontal fissue begins in mid axillary line in the 5th rib
Horizontal line that goes across following the 4th rib to the 4th costal cartilage
Differentiating the lung between the upper lobe, middle lobe and the lower lobe
Producing a wedge like segment through the lung
Middle lobe (male)
5th rib at mid axillary line
Goes across horizontally to the 4th costal cartilage
Gives us middle lobe of the right lung
Anterior surface markings of the lungs
Start 2.5 cm above the medial 3rd of the clavicle
Descend behind the manubrium sternal notch
Left one comes down to thte 4th costal cartilgae
Then laterally to 6th costal cartilage at the mid clavicular line
Then 8th rib at mid axillary line
R-
6th CC, 6th rib, 8th rib at mid axillary line
