  • when engine is running, make sure when you press the brake pedal, it shouldn’t feel spongy or slack
  • if your braking whilst driving, the car shouldn’t pull to one side

tell me where you’d find the car’s recommended tyre pressures and how you’d check each tyre 00000

  • look in the car manual (usually in the glove box) or a sticker behind the driver’s door or a sticker behind the petrol cap
  • use a reliable pressure gauge to check and adjust the pressures when the tyres are cold

remember to refit the valve caps and check the spare tyre’s pressure if there’s one

remember to put the dust cap back on afterwards

can you tell me how you’d make sure your head restraint is correctly adjusted so it provides the best protection

  • adjust the head restraint so the rigid part is at least as high as your eyes (ensure eyeline is in the middle)
  • ensure it’s close to the back of your head (without actually touching) and that it’s comfortable

  • check the entire outside of the tyre for any cuts or bulges
  • make sure they have at least 1.6mm tread depth across the central 3/4 of the tyre and the entire circumference

  • turn the dipped headlights on
    (two clicks to the right)
  • you might need to turn the ignition on
    then walk around the car to check the lights are working

-see on the dash for the symbol that the lights were on

  • when you start the car, an ABS light will come on, if it stays on whilst you’re driving there might be a fault with you ABS
  • will come on your dashboard

A
  • turn the ignition on, put on indicator then walk around the car to check the indicators are working (turn on left indicator, then come back inside or turn on right indicator)
  • or can put the hazard warning lights and walk around to check they are working (to save time)

  • when start the car, put a bit of pressure on the steering wheel before starting the engine, as you start it you should feel the steering wheel go a bit loose
  • you can also turn steering wheel just after moving off to check it works, it should feel light not heavy

during a journey if it becomes heavy, might suggest a problem

  • turn ignition on, turn dipped headlights on and then press the fog lights button
    (turn dial to right twice, then press top button)
  • check the warning lights is on the dashboard, can see the symbols on there
  • only use fog lights when visibility is seriously reduced, when you can’t see for more than 100m

  • turn the ignition on, turn on the dipped headlights
    (turn dials to right twice again)
  • push away the left stalk until a little blue symbol appears on the dashboard, to turn it off, pull it towards you

  • pull the lever on the front passenger seat side (next to the pedals)
  • open the bonnet stand to hook it up

  • pull the lever on the driver’s seat side (next to the pedals)
  • open the bonnet stand to hook it up
  • remove the dipstick and wipe it clean with a cloth, be cautious as it can be very hot
  • put it back in the holder and give it a little twirl, then take it out again
  • look at the maximum and minimum marks, the oil should be between them
  • if it’s too low, top it up but don’t overfill it as you could damage the engine

  • pull the lever on the driver’s seat side (next to the pedals)
  • open the bonnet stand to hook it up
  • check the coolant level by looking at the max and min marks on the radiator reader tank (engine coolant bottle), it should be between the min and max markings (could be on the back)
  • never open it when it’s hot because may burn our hands
  • if the levels are low, top it up with water and antifreeze mix, but only when the engine is cold

  • pull the lever on the driver’s seat side (next to the pedals)
  • open the bonnet stand to hook it up
  • the brake fluid bottle has a minimum and a maximum mark. the brake fluid should be between the two
  • if low, top it up with the correct type of fluid, you can find out what this is in your car’s manual
