Temperature affects airs ability to hold moisture Flashcards

A
Warmer air can hold more water vapour than colder air. One way this can affect the climate is the development of a phenomenon called El Nino in the equatorial region. This is a warming of the oceans and results in a reversal of the normal circulation of winds within the atmosphere over a large area.
The consequence is a shift in the normal pattern of rainfall which can be catastrophic for local ecosystems; e.g. drought in Australia and flooding in South America.
