Define palmar erythema
Reddening of palms, due to hyper pigmentation
Define petechiae
Small (1-2mm) red/purple spots on the skin, caused by minor bleeds.
Define fauces
The passage between the throat and pharynx
Define Spider naevi
Swollen red blood vessels of arachnid appearance. Common and benign. >5 is abnormal and sign of liver disease.
Define jaundice
Yellow/greenish pigmentation of the skin/eyes due to excess bilirubin, indicative of liver failure.
Define dysphagia
Difficulty in swallowing
Define odynophagia
Pain when swallowing
What is virchow’s node?
A node in the left supraclavicular region. When enlarged it is indicative of gastric cancer.
What is haematemesis?
Vomiting blood.
Define melaena
Dark, black and tarry stool.
Associated with upper GI bleeding
What term is used to describe passing fresh blood through the anus?
Haematochezia
Define tenesmus
Constant feeling of needing to visit the loo
What is fluid accumulation of more than 25ml in abdo called?
Ascites

What is flatulence?
Effected by expelling gas from anus.
